Making their debut, not just in Henley but performing together for the first time ever, will be the Godfather of stand up Jasper Carrott and the master impressionist Alistair McGowan. Forming this incredible partnership for a very special one off show on Sunday night (13 July) at the festival, the legendary duo will be swapping the baton between them for an hour of non-stop comedy excellence.
Jasper Carrott said: “It’s an exciting opportunity to work with an artist I’ve admired for many years, I just hope he’s not TOO funny!”
Alistair McGowan said: “Jasper was the first comic I ever saw performing ‘live’ when I was a teenager so it’s a real thrill to be working in tandem with him. I might even try and get him to sing ‘Funky Moped’ – backstage, at least!”
On Friday 11 July, the Henley Festival welcomes rock giant Rick Wakeman, in a one man show covering his life as keyboard genius with ‘prog rock’ band Yes, as well as dozens of solo albums. Not just a great musician, Rick is a first rate story-teller, stand up comedian and notably one of BBC 1’s Grumpy Old Men. From one rock ’n’ roll legend to another, bass player Guy Pratt has worked with Pink Floyd, Roxy Music, Michael Jackson and Madonna and will unveil his own hilarious accounts of life on the road on Saturday 12 July.
Rick Wakeman said: “I absolutely love doing the one man show as it’s such great fun, but because od a very heavy workload, (Deemed necessary having been brought about by a combination of 3 ex wives, 6 children and 8 grandchildren), I seem to only be able to fit in two or three ‘intimate evenings’ amidst the filming for Watchdog, touring the orchestral rock shows both at home and abroad, producing a book a year, doing radio shows and growing vegetables. So with the likelihood of just the one intimate evening show happening in 2014, I can think of no better place to perform it, that the Henley Festival. I do come to Henley at least half a dozen times a year and know it well, so Iwill certainly feel at home. It will be an honour to bring a touch of madness to the sanity of Henley!”
Bringing his award winning talent to the banks of the River Thames on Saturday 12 July is Milton Jones, the hugely entertaining ‘one-liner’ comedian, whose appearances on panel shows such as Have I Got News For You and QI have made him a firm favourite with fans.
Tickets to each very special show will be available from 24th March with all proceeds going to The Prince’s Foundation for Children and the Arts. Visit www.henley-festival.co.uk for more information
