College Mixed Hockey Team Reach Finals

HockeywinMarch2014The Henley College mixed hockey side has reached the final of the British Colleges and Schools National Competition following a victory over Greenhead College Huddersfield.

Greenhead, winners in 2012, came out confident on a beautiful sunny afternoon. Henley lost the toss and their opponents took the advantage to play with the sun behind them. Henley’s Liam Sanford took the push back quickly and shook that confidence, storming through their defence to make the first attack of many, on Greenhead’s goal.

A penalty corner drag flicked into the goal by Liam Sanford gave Henley the psychological edge of being a goal up at half time.

The score was evened out by Greenhead within minutes of the restart when they also scored from a penalty corner. A magical goal from Jonny Donald then put Henley ahead and this was followed by another convincing  shot to the back board by Liam Sanford on another penalty corner  putting the score at 3 – 1. Just five minutes before the end of the match Greenhead scored when they were awarded a penalty corner from an unfortunate tackle.

Within a minute of the final whistle a raised ball to the knee put Henley goalie Ryan Foggoa on the floor. His teammates worked hard to keep the ball in the opponents
