Shiplake College Hammer Local Rivals

28th-March-063Following a harrowing defeat against Bloxham School, the Shiplake College Hockey 1st XI bounced back in style against local rivals Pangbourne College.

28th-March-139Shiplake’s focus in training on improving their positional awareness and ball retention made an instant impact against a visiting Pangbourne team last Wednesday, as Shiplake found themselves 2 goals up within the first 5 minutes thanks to a neat finish from Rory O’Connor and a well-worked short corner from Reiss Simpson.

Shiplake continued to play with verve and skill throughout the first half and surging runs from Dan Deakin in the centre and excellent distribution from Simspon in defence led to 2 more goals being scored before half time.

At the break Shiplake refocused themselves and came out ready to see how many goals they could put past a tiring Pangbourne team in the second half.  With further goals from Liam Peachey and Tom McCooke, the match finished 6–0 making it the 1st XI’s biggest win for the past 2 seasons.  Man of the match went to Rory O’Connor for 2 goals and an excellent attacking performance.
