LAC Day 6 – Tapestry Choir Weaves Wonders at Leander

  • Henley Living Advent Calendar - Day 6

On the sixth day of Christmas, the Living Advent Calendar gave to Henley an all female voice choir, the Tapestry Choir based in Charvil at the Leander Club.

The 11 piece choir was led and conducted by Sarah Latto and opened with a beautiful ‘I Will Give My Love an Apple’ and was followed by some contemporary and folk songs including ‘Somewhere’ from West Side Story Musical, Ceremony of Carols – ‘This Little Babe’  and ‘There is No Rose’ by Benjamin Britten.

The choir invited the audience to join in two Christmas Carols at the end of the performance – In the Bleak Midwinter and Silent Night.

On a freezing night, there was another good number in the audience at this special venue on the river including the Mayor, Martin Akehurst.  The evening was sponsored by Brakspear who donated some of their best beer and Leander who provided hot Pimms and Mince Pies.

The raffle prizes last night were donated by the Crowne Plaza (a day spa pass) which was won by stalwart Living Advent Calendar attendee Nicola Taylor who was helping to marshall for the first time.  The runners-up prizes were Leander goodie bags which include a soft toy pink hippo, socks and an umbrella.

The Tapestry Choir practice on Tuesday mornings in Charvil between 10.45am and 12.15pm during term time and are looking for new members.  For more details go to www.tapestrychoir.org.uk/

Tonight’s venue and sponsor is Phyllis Court and the performance starts again at 6.15pm.
