Ofsted and the Sunday Times Put Gillotts in the Top 10

gillotts-top-schoolIt’s been a fantastic week for Gillotts!

On Sunday 7 December, The Sunday Times published its Parent Power schools guide. Gillotts was placed fourth nationally in the category state ‘secondary schools without a sixth form’, up from twentieth last year. The table is ranked on the percentage of GCSEs graded A* or A. Gillotts’ result was 42.5%.

On Tuesday 9 December, OfsteScienced published to schools, in its document Raise Online, its analysis of the 2014 exam results, which importantly includes measures of the progress made by students from their entry to the school in year 7, to their GCSE grades in year 11. Ofsted put Gillotts in the top 7% of schools nationally for the progress students have made. Coming on top of the record breaking headline figure of 81% of students gaining five or more A* to C passes at GCSE, including English and maths, this is a fantastic endorsement of the quality of teaching and learning for all students in the school.

The Headteacher, Catharine Darnton, said, “We are all absolutely delighted to have the school’s success recognised in this way. We are committed to providing all our students with a high quality curriculum that supports their artprogression, whatever route they want to take, and we have worked hard every year to improve the quality of teaching and learning. These outcomes come about because of the day in, day out hard work of all our staff, and I want to record my thanks for their dedication. We also could not do it without the support of all our parents, and the hard work of the students themselves.”

Students from Mrs Sadler’s (Head of Science) and Mrs Fenn’s (Head of Maths and Staff Governor) Zephyrus and Calliope tutor groups were delighted to be chosen to be photographed this morning to cheer about this fantastic news.

Well done my old school. I was there in the 60’s. I became a teacher and eventually a head teacher . I also took time out to be a musician in a group and a band_ Muckram Wakes and New Victory Band. My time at Gillotts gave me confidence to succeed in both careers. I loved my school and have started a website for those who attended in the 60’s. Good luck to all pupils and staff
