LAC Day 23 – Springbox Tumble into Action in Market Place

  • Henley Living Advent Calendar 2014

The talented members of the Springbox Gymnastics Club braved the cold last night for the penultimate performance of the Henley Living Advent Calendar.

Ranging from the very young, dressed as tiny little elves and angels, to 16 year olds in black sequined leotards and Charleston skirts, the group entertained the 200-strong audience with an impressive showcase of gymnastic skills.

With the town square’s Christmas tree as the backdrop and a huge range of equipment, including springboards, vaults and a long inflatable tumble mat, the club created one of the most complex sets we’ve seen so far. The fun and festive soundtrack covered Wake Me Up by Evanescence, Wings by Little Mix, Happy by Pharrell and Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You.

The show began with a piece by some of the younger members, who held the audience captive, before the older boys and girls wowed with a series of one-handed cartwheels, somersaults and back flips. To finish, Father Christmas delivered a wrapped present to the centre of the stage and out popped one of the youngest members dressed as a Christmas fairy.

The Mayor closed the performance by thanking the club and bespoke bakery Choco Mallow Coco, who handed out delicious bites of chocolate cake. “How do I follow that?” he said. “I’m exhausted just watching them!” The bumper crop of raffle prizes included a one-day workshop at The Henley Photo School, a beauty voucher from Sheer Indulgence, a massage from Massage 4 Everybody at The Red Lion hotel, a cake-decorating course from Choco Mallow Coco and a bottle of wine.

The final performance of the Living Advent Calendar will take place at 6:15pm in St Mary’s Church on Hart Street.

What wonderful comments about my club which I started 25years ago in January I love the bit especially about the sixteen years olds in black sparkly leotards as yes there were 5 of them but the rest of us from the adults class two in their twenties 1 aged 40 and myself grandmother to four of the gymnasts taking part at mere 55 so thanks that was a wonderful compliment and made us all laugh.
