Sam Brown and her ukulele players kicked off the 2015 poppy appeal again this year in Market Place on Saturday morning with a brilliant sing-a-long which the crowd loved.  The Mayor, Councillor Lorraine Hillier bought the first official poppy from John Green, Chair of the Royal British Legion Henley and Peppard Branch.

Lorraine said, “It’s lovely atmosphere and great to have Sam and her orchestra here again and see people enjoying the music but also it’s a great way of marking the reverence of the occasion.”

Henley Poppy Appeal Organiser, Shirley Lees thanked Sam and the ukulele players for coming to play again this year and thanked everyone for their donations.  She said, “The money not only goes towards helping the veterans and widows of the world wars but supports injured personnel today in recovery centres and the Battle Back centre for adaptive sports.”

The house to house collections will take place between Saturday 24 October and Friday 6 November. All collectors will carry appropriate authorisation. During the 2015 Poppy Appeal, over 45 million poppies will be distributed by over 350 000 dedicated collectors.
