For the first time music and drama students joined together for the annual Gillotts School Carol Concert at St Mary’s Church last week.  Drama students performed during the reading of the lessons which were interspersed between the traditional carols.

The concert started with the choir singers bringing up candles to the altar whilst James Laing beautifully sang the first verse of Silent Night.

The choir performed a Christmas Medley, Winter Wonderland and the First Noel/Pachelbel’s Canon and a group of talented musicians accompanied the carols led by teacher, Mr Bull.

Carols included O Little Town of Bethlehem, Good King Wenceslas and finishing with O Come, All Ye Faithful after which a retiring collection was taken for the charity, Pump Aid www.pumpaid.org

Art students had also got involved in designing Christmas cards for the audience to buy and the Gillotts Parent’s Association provided refreshments.

New Head of Music at Gillotts, Frances David said, “We thought it would be a great idea to bring the different students together to sing, play and perform.  Just over 50 children from years 7 to 11 have got involved.”
