Phyllis Court Gives Donation to Regatta for Disabled
The Charity Action Group at Phyllis Court Members Club presented Mike Pooley; Chair of the Regatta for Disabled a cheque for £500 last week for this year’s event which is taking place on Saturday 3 September 2016.
The Regatta for Disabled is annual event held in The Paddock at Phyllis Court specifically for people with a disability; to enjoy land and river based activities not normally available to them. River activities include the popular Dragon Boat racing, river trips by Rivertime Trust and Hobbs of Henley and new for last year were bell boats.
On land there was Punch & Judy, circus skills, a petting zoo, face painting and lots more.
In addition to the Regatta in September, the charity are organising a fun day at Bisham Sailing School on 22 May 2016 when there will be bell boats again and bicycles that can take wheelchairs. This has been possible due to a generous donation by the Nat West Henley Branch from a rowathon they did last year.
Mike Pooley said, “It costs £14,000 to put the Regatta for Disabled on each year and we are very grateful to our sponsors. We’d like to thank Phyllis Court members for their generous donation to this year’s event.
Diana Pearman, Chair of the Charity Action Group said, “We are very pleased to be able to support this very worthwhile event. Mike’s presentation effectively illustrated the range of activities offered through this event to a group of people who often are not able to be involved in water based fun”.
