Henley-based web design company, Ri Web, won the UK Blog Award for the Digital and Technology category and were ‘Highly Commended’ for their work within the PR, Media, Marketing and Communications category, during a ceremony at Westminster’s Park Plaza Hotel.
Winning a UK Blog Award represents a major triumph for a small business. The Ri Web Blog went through a rigorous process to win the award, having been one of 2000 entries. Each entry was then subject to a public vote, which accumulated a total of 79,000 votes before ten finalists in each category were reviewed by expert judges.
The digital category Judges Merinda Peppard, Head of Marketing at Hootsuite, and Carrie Barclay, the Head of Editorial at the Government Digital Service, awarded Ri Web the win after analysing the finalists across five areas: design, style, content, marketing and usability.
The Ri Web blog has been commended for its work in providing expert web design, digital marketing and entrepreneurship help to their audience. With notable articles including an interview series with entrepreneurs from across the globe, which culminated in the team interviewing one of President Obama’s top 30 under 30 entrepreneurs, Neil Patel.
With over 700 people in attendance on the evening, the Ri Web team were at the Park Plaza to collect their award alongside event sponsors such as BMW, Odeon Cinemas and Hills Balfour. The hotel was decorated in style reminiscent of Roald Dahl’s BFG character to celebrate the journalists and bloggers who attended the event.
The Ri Web team could barely contain their delight upon winning the award, with Ri Web’s Director, Ryan Irving having this to say:
“I’m absolutely delighted with winning this award! With other brands there including The Royal Mint, Ticketmaster & Cancer Research, I didn’t think we stood a chance! It really is testament to what can be achieved through digital marketing that a small company from Henley can not only mix with such big names, but actually win! This is what our blog is all about too, inspiring small businesses to realise what can be achieved through digital marketing and educating them to succeed with it -something we believe in throughout everything we do at Ri Web.”
“I’m personally thrilled that all the hard work that each member of the team puts into everything they do has been rewarded. Without them, we couldn’t have won such a prestigious award. We set out on a mission to create a free resource to all small businesses that would not only inspire them to take their digital marketing seriously but also educate and empower our readers to achieve greater success with their business as a whole. This is something we genuinely believe in and I’m delighted that we’ve been recognised for this. I can’t stop smiling!”
Ri Web’s Editor, Henry McIntosh, noted that it was mission accomplished: “The blog started as a way to help small businesses and drive relevant traffic to our site, not only have we achieved that over the past year but now we’ve been acknowledged for our work which is fantastic. The quality of the blog and the service it provides our audience is simply an extension of the whole Ri Web ethos.”
Asked what was next for the blog, Henry was adamant this was just the start with the illustrious award having the potential to propel Ri Web to new heights: “It’s such an honour to be commended for all the hard work the team have put in, especially at such a prestigious and national awards ceremony. We’re not stopping here and are set to release an e-book in the next few weeks, on top of the regular weekly blog aimed at helping small businesses.”
