Further Train Improvements Implemented

Local rail travellers are advised that the branch line and commuter weekday schedule has been adjusted slightly with effect from Monday 3 July.

Morning peak services out of Henley are unchanged until the 0902 service.  For those with peak tickets, there is now a direct connection at Twyford to arrive in PAddington at 0952 instead of 1019. Off peak travellers should alight at Maidenhead where they can take one of the new electric trains four minutes later for the previous 1019 arrival time.

On the way home, the existing 1706, 1711 and 1805 services continue to run.

However, the previous 1810 Paddington to Henley service is now an electric service and only runs to Maidenhead.   Off peak ticket holders can take this train for a connection to Twyford and a change for Henley.  Alternatively, take the 1812 slow service direct to Twyford, or even the 1818 fast train (although there will then be a 30 minute wait).   Those with peak tickets can also take advantage of the new fast connection from the non-stop 1847 Paddington to Twyford train.  All of these connect to leave Twyford at 1914 and arrive in Henley at 1926.

Other services are broadly unchanged, but travellers please note NOT to jump on the 2018 train any more.  It only runs to Maidenhead.  Take the 2022 Paddington to Twyford service instead and be home for 2104.

    This isn’t an improvement. If you miss the 1805 from Paddington you now effectively have to wait until 1847 which is a ridiculous gap. What we need is a train from Paddington around 1835 so it falls inbetween the 1805 and 1905. Previously we had the option of 1810 or 1818 (which used to get to Twyford before the 1810). The 1805, 1810 and 1818 were always too close together but at least if you missed one due to tube delays you could still get home by 1915. 1847 is too late and too close to the 1905.

      Agreed. Taking out options at arguably the most crucial time of travel appears to be the work of mildly intelligent monkeys. Most people in central London finish between 17:00 and 17:30. With a generally unreliable tube service that means leaving central anywhere from 25-45 minutes before your train at Paddington. This is why the 18:05, 18:10 and 18:18, although too close together, gave a bit of a safety net to catch a connection at Twyford. Come on GWR, gps track those intelligent monkeys and give them to your commuters’ as companions; convert them into your most important asset

    Valid comments. While the 1810 may not run to Henley it now runs to Maidenhead, as a bigger, cooler, smoother faster electric train. Try it if you have the time, and experience what’s coming to the whole Reading – London line as soon as the wires are all up. It’s way better.

    Change there to the 1812 behind, or take that or the 1818 to Twyford and then change. Arrival IS 12 minutes later, but part of that is because the connection off the 1805 has been made 2 minutes longer and more reliable – because it doesn’t have the 1810 breathing down its neck requiring it back at Twyford. The 1847 is an additional fast connecting service which fits the gap between the 1818 and the 1905 – in fact the fastest service of the evening.

    Everything will change again in December when ALL through trains from Henley are likely to stop – IF the wires are finally up by then. Local groups – HBUG, Henley Trains – are all pushing for regular, fast services. Speed is seen to be of the essence. Who wants to sit on a hot, squashed in slow train?
