Note to Young Musicians – Why Not Enter Henley Music Competition?

The Henley Young Musician Competition, run by Henley Music School is taking place on Sunday 26th November at Shiplake College.

This is the second year of the competition which is an inclusive, friendly and fun music competition for children from Year 7 up and grade 5 upwards (working towards). The first competition was won by Matthew Prior (pictured above), aged 14 who played the French Horn and got the opportunity to play the Horn Concerto with Henley Symphony Orchestra (HSO) at their Patron’s evening at Fawley Court.

Laura Reineke from Henley Music School said, “It is a very relaxed competition as the young musicians get the opportunity to meet and chat with the adjudicators whilst enjoy tea and cake!  We can organise accompanists.  We’ve got some great adjudicators – Ian Brown, Conductor and Pianist, who conducted the London Mozart players, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and is the conductor for HSO. Singer, Christine Cairns who has performed with Simon Rattle etc, and Jane Salmon, cellist with the Schubert Ensemble.

The six finalists will all receive a cup and the overall winner will again have the opportunity to play a solo with Henley Symphony Orchestra, Laura added, “Something not even professional musicians get to do!”
