I wanted to say how amazing the school children in Henley were in their awareness of and involvement in activities to mark this year’s Remembrance. I have just received this card along with others from St Mary’s School thanking me for their visit to the Lest We Forget exhibition and my visit to their school. Along with the cards the children at the school had cut out a poppy for each of the Henley soldiers and the teacher wrote the names on each of them. I will use these next year at the November exhibition at the Old Fire Station Gallery.
As well as being invited to do an assembly at Rupert House School, I was honoured to be invited to be part of the Remembrance ceremony and very proud that they had used my book, Bringing Them Home to choose a Henley serviceman for each of their crosses they planted in the school grounds.
I was also very pleased that the Mayor involved the school children too in this year’s Henley Remembrance Service and the Gainsborough Primary Schools initiative to write poems and plant crosses at Makins Recreation Ground was another great project to mark Remembrance too.
I feel certain that the school children of Henley – will remember.
