Red Fox and Astral Photographics are delighted to announce the launch of the first Henley’s Young Photographer of the Year Competition.
The competition is to inspire creativity and passion in the photographic arts within the youth of Henley. The competition is divided into age groups and has a subject to base their images on to encourage artistic curiosity and to go out and explore the local landscape.
Entries can be taken on any camera, from a camera phone to a DSLR. James Walsh from Astral said, “Images are going to be judged on creativity, composition and artistic merit – not the cost of the camera! We’re really excited to launch this competition as we wanted to part of and give back to the local community. We’ve got lots of ideas how we want to develop what will be an annual competition over future years. ”
There are 4 age categories:
Primary School – 4-6 years old and 7-10 years old with the subject Henley Wildlife
Secondary School and up – 11-14 years old and 15-18 years old with the subject Hidden Henley
There will be a first, second and third place prize for each of the age categories, to be announced shortly.
A Photography Gallery Opening to showcase the entrants work will take place on 30 June (for Primary Schools) and 1 July (for Secondary Schools and Collages) at the Studios of Astral Photographics and Red Fox at Enterprise Park in Henley when a carefully selected panel of judges will announce the winners.
The competition is being supported by The Head Partnership solicitors, Henley Town Council and The Artisan Hog Roast Company who will providing food at the gallery openings.
The competition is not for profit and any money raised will be donated to Bullying UK. Katy Mealing from Astral said, “We chose to support this charity as it is close to both James’ and my heart as we experienced bullying when we were younger and with the impact of social media on young people today we thought this was the right fit too.”
