May Fayre is Back Again in Market Place
After the success of last year, the Henley May Fayre is back again on Bank Holiday Monday, 7 May in Market Place from 12-5pm.
Organiser Councillor Sarah Miller, quoting the Pointer Sisters song said, “We’re so excited, we just can’t hide it. We’re about to lose control, and hey, we like it!”
There will be over 20 stall holders providing sweets and popcorn, face painting, cakes, Tombola and other children’s games. There will also be a selection of vintage attractions that many will remember from the early days of the May Fayre, such as Strongman Striker, Coconut Shy, Splat the Rat, Buzz Wire and Hook the Duck.
The Catherine Wheel will be cooking hot dogs/burgers in the Square and Stovell’s will be serving up fish and chips. Loch Fyne will be offering champagne and Oysters for the parents along with the fabulous Gin & Prosecco VW caravanette serving our very own Mr Hobbs Gin of course.
To ensure that everyone can enjoy the May Fayre in safety there will be road closures around Market Place.
After the Mayor’s Opening Speech at 12 noon, dancers from Steph’s Divas and Dudes Dance Academy will be the main attraction to kick off the event with the traditional May Pole dance.
At 12.45pm the fabulous Angie Best will judge the fancy dress competition. All children up to the ages of 11 are welcome to dress in any costume.
At 1.30pm the May Fairy will be visiting the event and saying hello to all the children.
Music will be provided by the incredibly talented Felix and Didi – winners of Henley’s Got Talent 2018. Plus Rupert House Choir will be singing some songs as well as Henley’s fabulously talented singer/songwriter Katie Moberly who will be singing a few originals.
Throughout the day there will be music and dance, and of course no May Fayre is complete without the Ellington Morris Dancers.
And there’s more….
Do you like creepy crawlies? Fancy a hairy tarantula crawling over your arm, or a snake wrapping itself around your arm? Then pop along to Owen’s Animals who will have all his creepy crawlies for you to meet.
At 3.45pm the Tug of War challenge kicks off. This year the 2017 winners, The Argyll Pub will be pulling against newbies The Saracens Head. The Rowbarge Inn will be taking on the ‘Tweed Pullers’.
Sarah added, “At 4.30pm we end the day with some groovy tunes from … Surprise Surprise. Act to be announced very soon. It will be FABULOUS! We would also like to acknowledge our sponsors who have helped us to put this event together – Henley Town Council, Wilkins Removals, Penny & Sinclair, Divas & Dudes and Hot Gossip.”
