Valley Road School Win Silver Medals in County Netball Competition

A netball team from Year 6 at Valley Road School travelled to St Helen’s and St Catherine’s school to represent South Oxfordshire in the school games High Fives final. 220 teams entered the tournament in the first place and 9 finalists were to play out for the trophy in the blazing hot sun on 18 April!

Valley Road, playing in their green and black strip, worked hard. There were 8 games, with no gap! All players have to follow a  strict rotation so play each position on the court at least twice and they did this well. Out of their 8 games Valley Road won 6 (the best result being against St Ebbes, which they won 7-0 in 10 minutes of play) and only lost 2 narrowly. Flo Wakely, Evie Decardi Nelson and Anna McLoughlin were able to regularly pop the ball in the net and Lucy Herbert and Tom Francis made a fantastic defensive duo. Lara Wood and Zahra Beagin showed particular talent for interceptions but in playing all position.  All the children had to switch their brains to cover the variety of jobs on the court.

VRS Teacher Rachel Herbert said, “It was a fast paced and exciting morning and with the amount of wins they had, Valley Road secured second over all, winning silver medals and narrowly coming second only to The Blake School from Witney (who have won the tournament for the last few years!). We couldn’t have been prouder of them.”
