Student’s Artwork on display in ‘Interpretations’ at River & Rowing Museum

As part of Oxfordshire Art Weeks, the River & Rowing Museum will be exhibiting the work of their Artways Art Club students this weekend, 19 & 20 May 2018.

The pieces of work produced will be inspired by the current Barbara Hepworth exhibition, as well as their own ideas and interests.  These works will feature a wide range of media and materials including metal, plaster and silk.

Camilla Shelley, Artways tutor at the River & Rowing Museum, said:  “We are really excited about the opportunity that this exhibition provides, to share the work of our talented Artways students with the local community.  The exhibition is organised entirely by our senior students, as they work towards their silver and gold Arts Awards in association with Trinity College London. I hope that as many visitors as possible will come and support this free event which will be held in the Education Centre over the weekend of the 13th & 14th May, as well as taking the opportunity to explore their local Museum.”

Helen Cook, Head of Learning, River & Rowing Museum:  ‘It is fantastic to be exhibiting art work by young people as part of Oxfordshire Art Weeks for the second year running.  The exhibition ‘Barbara Hepworth: Finding Form’ has proved inspiring for visitors of all ages and we have been working with different groups of young people – including schools and colleges, SEN groups as well as Artways Art Club – to explore their responses to the sculptures in creative ways.  The variety of work on display in the Art Weeks exhibition showcases the huge talent and imagination of the Artways students and how they embrace learning different skills through the Club.  We encourage everyone to visit this wonderful exhibition celebrating the work of local young people.’

This is the River & Rowing Museum’s contribution to Oxfordshire Artweeks, a local initiative held every year over three weeks in May across the county of Oxfordshire.  Artweeks gives attendees the opportunity to experience the work of local artists working in many different types of media, to attend talks and even take part in the art being created through participatory workshops.

The exhibition will be held in the Museum’s Learning Centre, from 19 – 20 May, 10.30am – 4pm.  Admission is free of charge.  To find out more about Artways Art Club and how to participate, you can contact the Museum’s Learning Team on 01491 415605 or edbookings@rrm.co.uk  or visit the website at: rrm.co.uk
