Rocket Science Digital Helps Children Escape Screen Time

It may sound counter-intuitive but Rocket Science Digital, a Henley-based online marketing agency, is promoting an initiative to help get children away from their digital devices and out into nature. The Little Welly engaged Rocket Science Digital last autumn to build brand awareness, gain a new audience of followers and promote their message of muddy outdoor fun for children through social media marketing and website improvements.

Using Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, Rocket Science are running campaigns aimed at parents of primary school children to show how kids love to challenge themselves and test their boundaries over a 3km obstacle course in a fun, safe environment. The benefits are more than just physical, as outdoor activity has also been shown to have a strong positive impact on mental health and stress reduction. The first event of the year took place in Surrey earlier this month and next weekend is the Henley event (9 and 10 June) at the Culden Faw estate

The social media campaigns have increased traffic to The Little Welly’s website by 175% and ticket sales are up by 50%. In fact, The Little Welly had their best single day of ticket sales day in their 4-year history at the end of April.

Jon Simmonds, owner of Rocket Science, said “we spend all our working hours running digital marketing campaigns for local companies, to get them seen online and find more customers. But even we need to switch off the screens sometimes. I have two young daughters, so I’ve seen first-hand how compelling it can be to fall back on the ‘electronic babysitter’ and how quickly children get hooked. A major reason we moved to Henley to start a family was the wonderful expanses of countryside and the river, which offer children unrivalled opportunities to get outside to play, explore and learn. The Little Welly is the perfect client for us in that respect, there’s a huge alignment between their ethos and ours.”
