The River & Rowing Museum marked a momentous occasion this week with their Big 20th Birthday Bonanza. On Thursday 23 August, visitors were invited to celebrate the big day with games, crafts, cakes, and a special visit from Mr. Toad. Packed full of fun for all the family, it was certainly a party to remember!
The festivities ran throughout the day, with the majority of the action taking place in the Thames Room. The museum was decorated with balloons and bunting for the 20th birthday bash. Children and their grown up helpers could get creative with colouring in, badge making, birthday box origami and biscuit decorating with Leafi cafe. Visitors could also sign a giant birthday card with tales of what they loved best about the museum. Since it wouldn’t be a party without party hats, little guests could also make their own birthday cake hats to celebrate in style.
To top it all off, there was even a giant birthday cake — although it came with a bit of a twist when Mr. Toad appeared out of it! Although not as tasty as an edible cake, the surprise appearance from the museum’s beloved friend more than made up for it. The Wind in the Willows character stayed to play party games with the children, from pass the parcel to musical statues. And, in true birthday party fashion, the crowd joined Mr. Toad in singing a rousing rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ to the museum. What a fantastic way to celebrate Henley’s treasured museum’s 20th birthday!
