Real Ale Society Club Members Donate Money for Specially Programmed iPads

Members of the Real Ale Appreciation Society, a special interest group at Phyllis Court Club handed over a cheque for £700 to Bishopswood School Head Teacher, Janet Kellett at the the Society’s Christmas Party.

The sum of £400 was raised at a barbecue held in August with the remainder coming from the proceeds of a raffle held at the Christmas party. After Janet had  demonstrated a specially-programmed iPad which allows non-verbal children to speak to their peers, she said, “Communication is something we take for granted, but which our children struggle with. Your generosity will allow us to buy two more of these essential aids for them to use. Thank you.”

Founded in 1977, Bishopswood School provides specialist education for children aged 2-16 years with severe or profound learning difficulties including those with complex needs and ASD. The school has a primary department based in Grove Road, Sonning Common, an integrated nursery at Valley Road, Henley on Thames, and a secondary department consisting of 3 classes at Maiden Erlegh Chiltern Edge School in Sonning Common.

Barrie Scott, Chairman of the Real Ale Appreciation Society (RAAS) which meets monthly either at the Club or in local inns, praised the generosity of his members, saying, “Our members have been very generous and it’s marvellous that we can sip some fine ales, have a great social event and raise money for a very worthwhile cause at the same time.”
