Henley Lions’ Santa sleigh raised another staggering £4,288 again last year despite having to cancel two evenings due to heavy rain.
The sleigh toured routes around Henley and Shiplake during December with Santa waving to hundreds of children along the way.
Pam Phillips who saved the sleigh in 2017 after Henley Round Table folded said, “I was delighted with this result. We had to cancel two evening collections due to heavy rain so I was not expecting such a great total (only £200 less than last year). We attracted two new drivers and ten new collectors this year. We had 49 helpers in total. A big thank you to all the residents of Henley and Shiplake who gave so generously to keep the the Santa Sleigh as part of our Christmas traditions.”
The main benefactor of the money was Bishopswood School for their Christmas celebration where 70 children and 47 adults enjoyed a party at Phyllis Court Club. The funds paid for a meal for the children, an afternoon tea for the adults, an entertainer and gifts for the children. The remainder of the funds collected will go into the Lions Charity Account and will be donated to local worthy causes over the year.
