Over 40 Young Golfers Compete for Kathy Sparks Trophies

The final event of the 2018 Junior Section season at Henley Golf Club was competed for by 43 young golfers.

The Kathy Sparks Trophies are played on 4 divisions based on age and handicap. The main trophy for low handicappers was won by Angus Harris-White (pictured above left) with a score of 43 stableford points seven shots better than his handicap of 2. Runner up was Max Gosby on count back from Mairi Weir. The Young Sparks trophy for handicaps up to 36 was won by Harvey Cooper with Lucy Hucker (pictured below) runner up.  Junior Sparks played over 9 holes went to Toby Phillips from Freya Petrie. The youngest children played in teams with a PGA professional won by the ‘Legends’ group Luke Taylor, Angus Smith, Frankie Plackett and Isaac Ahmed.

After the competition, 2019 Junior Captain Mairi Weir (pictured below) drove in to commence her year of office. Mairi is also Oxfordshire County Girl’s Captain this year.

The day was rounded off by presentation of prizes for the 21 Junior competitions played in the 2018 season. Introducing the day Junior Organiser and Head Professional Mark Howell noted that Henley has by far the largest Junior section in the area and our girls form the core of the Oxfordshire County squads.
