Golf Club Raises £16,500 for Chiltern Centre
The Captains at The Henley Golf Club last year chose to support The Chiltern Centre for Disabled Children and raised a phenomenal sum of £16,500 over the last 12 months.
The cheque was presented to Liz Deacon, Community Fundraiser for the Chiltern Centre before the annual Lady Captain’s dinner last Tuesday (22 February) by Ann Thomas and Bob Thomas (not related). Both Ann and Bob were delighted to have raised such a huge sum and thanked their supporting Members for their generosity. Ann has been a supporter of the Centre for many years and it’s a cause close to her heart.
Ladies attending the dinner were entertained by a barber shop quartet who sung a medley of hits from the past century, and had a delicious two course dinner. Ann Thomas, this year’s Lady Captain gave a short speech and presented prizes from a golf competition from earlier that day.
Liz Deacon said, “We are so very grateful to Ann and Bob and the Members of The Henley Golf Club for working so hard over the last 12 months to raise such an enormous amount for The Chiltern Centre. Each year pressure on grant applications becomes greater and we rely more and more on support from our community and its organisations like Henley Golf Club. This money will enable us to keep the centre open and supporting local families who desperately need respite care for their disabled children/young people.”
