Gardiner Place is the new retail, leisure and living destination that will be opening in Henley in early 2020.
After starting on site in September 2018, the site is well on its way to being transformed into a tranquil, yet thriving space in the heart of the town centre.
Paul Sanders, Project Director for Catalyst Capital said, “We have now completed the archaeological investigation work that started on site in October 2018 and we unearthed some very interesting finds. Archaeologists found a number of old wall foundations on the land between Market Place Mews and the Waitrose car park as well as many post-medieval items including cologne bottles, soda glasses and ceramic plates and Roman pottery. We are hoping to display the items over the forthcoming months.”
Update on car park closures
As the work progresses on site at Gardiner Place, the temporary car park changes are now in effect.
Due to the site opening up directly into the car park and for health and safety reasons to make sure Henley residents and visitors are safely separated from construction activities hoarding has been pushed out into the car park and the car park format will temporarily change.
Paul added, “We have worked closely with South Oxfordshire District Council, Waitrose and the Town Council on this plan since 2016 and the option we are implementing has the least impact.” The temporary closures are as follows:
- Southern entrance near the Kings Arms Barn will be closed
- Entry will only be via the northern entrance
- The exit onto Bell Street and Kings Road will not be affected
- A one way system will be in place during the car park changes
