This weekend saw the Henley Open Water Swimming Club take to the bank of the Thames to recreate an iconic 1930s photograph taken at the Henley Baths (above) which was located on the Thames where Henley Rowing Club now is. The baths closed in the 1980s.
The modern day take on the image was shot by the Henley Classic event to mark the 15th anniversary of the event’s reprise, following its creation in 1892. The photograph was shot in partnership with Selkie, the event sponsor and swim clothing brand who supplied the swimsuits in the photo.
Club member, Phil Cater says:
“The HOWSC team had great fun replicating the old photograph of the Henley Swim Club by the Thames. All members were keen to be involved and model the new Selkie swimwear. It’s feels great to part of the history, with Henley Open Water swimming Club continuing the tradition meeting weekly, swimming in some beautiful spots along the Thames around the Henley area and of course taking part in fantastic events like the Henley Classic event.”
Swimmers can join the swimming club and other outdoor swimmers at the iconic swim event, Selkie Henley Classic, for the 2.1km early morning swim on Sunday 30th June, by visiting www.henleyswim.com.
