Year 9 Gillotts student, Cameron MacDonald, was recently selected as winner for his age group for the Leaders Award Secondary Engineering competition for the South of England.
This is a free national primary and secondary engineering competition that Year 7-11 Gillotts pupils entered. They had to take part in a live stream interview with Mechatronics Engineer Jenny Roberts from Gaist Solutions Ltd, find a problem, invent a solution, then design and explain it. Cameron’s solution, which addressed climate change, was a wind turbine that also incorporated solar power. He was presented with his trophy at an awards ceremony at Southampton University and also had his work displayed there, in the Leaders Award public exhibition.
