First Listed Building Application Submitted for Bridge Lights

The first Listed Building application has been submitted to Wokingham District Council for new permanent LED lights to be installed on Henley Bridge to replace the current temporary ones.

The temporary ones were installed by Henley resident, Clive Hemsley without planning permission in February 2018.  After an online petition to keep the lights was launched by the Herald which gained over 2400 signatures, Oxfordshire County Council agreed to support the planning application to fix permanent lights in May this year.

Clive said, “This application is one of many required to be submitted to Oxfordshire County Council, South Oxfordshire District Council and Historic England.  The target date for the decision by Wokingham DC is 20 August.  I hope that the new rope style lights like the ones on the London bridges will be installed for Christmas. I will need to raise the money for the lights and maintenance.”

Great news but surely Wokingham Council have no claim to the bridge? I believe it was funded by tolls collected by Henley people? Granted it connects to Wokingham but is not on their land? Great shot by Dave Murray as well thanks!
