The Big Dog Bed Company and The Veterinary Centre are hosting a Big September Walk for Canine Arthritis Management (CAM) on Marsh Meadows on Sunday (22 September) from 1-4pm.
This event is being supported by local businesses and Henley Town Council and is one of a nationwide collection of events being run by volunteers to promote the free resources available to the public from CAM concerning how to improve the quality of life in dogs living with arthritis and also to raise money to support CAMs continued operation.
80% of dogs in the UK suffer with some degree of arthritis by the time they are 8 years old. Arthritis is a significant contributor to premature canine euthanasia. It doesn’t need to be so and with the right adaptations to lifestyle and environment, arthritic dogs can have full and active life. This is the message of Canine Arthritis Management (CAM), set up by passionate vet practitioners to provide free information to the public on how to make their older dogs more comfortable #yourdogmoreyears.
Sarah Whittaker from Henley Vets says “We are asking people, whether or not their dog has arthritis, to come and meet us and chat about what non-clinical interventions they can make to improve their dogs’ quality of life, and walk one of three shorts routes in the Marsh Meadow area. We’re asking for a minimum donation of £5 which will enter them in both the local Henley raffle and nationwide CAM raffle, as well as taking away a goodie bag. Locally, we have some great prizes including from ourselves including a Laser treatment session, an introductory hydrotherapy session from Doggie Dips and a specialist pressure relief bed from Big Dog Bed Company”.
Pre-registration is required to give the organisers some idea of the likely number of participants. You can arrive and register at the Information Marquee on the day, but if you know you will attend, please help the organisers by doing so in advance. Please register by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com. Alternatively, call in at Henley Vets on Reading Road or Doggie Dips Hydrotherapy in Sonning Common.
Participants are asked to make a minimum donation of £5 to register. Donations are also gratefully received by donating direct to Canine Arthritis Management via JustGiving: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/camhelp
