Choral Society Carol Concerts Raise the Roof of Church
No festive season is complete without a carol concert or two, and on Saturday Henley Choral Society and Henley Youth Choir (HYC) joined together for an afternoon family concert and in the evening members of Henley Choral Society were joined by Baritone soloist, Charles Cunliffe.
With an impressive 100+ members singing, they certainly raised the roof at St Mary’s Church. With the candles lit and the audience participation during the Christmas carols it was truly a magical Christmas atmosphere.
At the family concert the Youth Choirs (Junior and Senior) sang some great renditions of Donkey Carol, Little Drummer Boy and The Three Kings. From the first carol to the final song, the choirs put on an impressive show of high notes and fantastic harmonies. The Henley Suzuki Violin Group were performing for the first time and played four pieces which included Over the Rainbow and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.
Both concerts’ finale was the wonderful The Winter’s Night, a cantata that brings together several well-known carols composed by Ceclia McDowall and brought the concerts to a rousing climax.
Afterwards Fi Harding from Henley Youth Choir said, “Jessica Norton & the HYC team are all incredibly proud of everyone who sang at the concerts on Saturday, bringing professionalism, commitment and beautiful singing to the event. All our soloists did a fantastic job too.”
