VE Day Messages from Henley Army Cadets

Henley Detachment, Oxfordshire Army Cadet Force was due to join the veteran members of the Royal British Legion, Henley-on-Thames & Peppard Branch, to march through Henley to a special service at St Mary’s Church in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the VE Day, then COVID-19 struck.

Undeterred by cancellations, Henley Army Cadets join Henley RBL to celebrate this significant anniversary of VE Day indoors. In doing so, two 16-year-old senior cadets have made videos. They both have just finished Year 11 at Gillotts secondary school.

Colour Sergeant Ashleigh Poolan has been an Army Cadet for more than 3.5 years, and she is the most senior cadet in Henley. Her video explains to us all how to celebrate VE Day on 8 May 2020, ‘the safe way’ during the COVID-19 lockdown:

Corporal Maria Korsunova has been an Army Cadet for 3.5 years, her video ‘All about VE Day’ explores its history and significance:

To bring the community together, residents in and around Henley-on-Thames are encouraged by the RBL to be inventive with red, white and blue indoors, and share their VE Day 2020 celebratory photos with “Henley 75th VE Day Celebrations” on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram @HenleyVEDay75
