SODC to Implement New Car Park Charges

At the Cabinet meeting of South Oxfordshire District Council on Thursday, members voted to implement new car parking charges for their car parks in Kings Road (Waitrose) and Greys Road in Henley.   The motion proposed, was with 21 days notice, to increase the cost of 2 hours from £1 to £1.20 and 3 hours from £1.60 to £1.80.  From February 2021 to give 1 hour’s free parking in line with other SODC car parks in other towns and to start charging on a Sunday.

The free hour would replace the current free hour between 9.00-10.00am.  If parking for more than 1 hour at any time, the free hour will be added to the ticket.

The last change was in 2012 when the cabinet agreed to half price season tickets for those working in South Oxfordshire and free parking on Saturday afternoons in all car parks. The cabinet last increased fees by 10p and excess charges by £10 in 2007.

The two parts of the proposal cannot be completed at the same time due to parking orders and the requirement for a legal consultation process.

Henley Mayor Councillor Ken Arlett said, “This is very disappointing that we have to wait until next February to these changes, perhaps SODC may well be able to reduce this time scale if action takes place now to put new pricing in place.”
