River & Rowing Museum Bringing the Magic Back this Autumn

The River & Rowing Museum has a magical calendar of family activities and spooky fun this forthcoming half term, including children’s workshops, such as Night Animals and Mythical Monsters! If it’s time travel you’re looking for, or an artistic adventure, then follow the Museum’s new Gallery Trails.

What’s more, the Museum’s family favourite Wind in the Willows exhibition has reopened, so visitors young and old can enter the enchanting recreation of the riverbank world of Toad, Mole, Ratty, Badger and friends.

Family Fun Day:

Autumn Magic
Thursday 29 Oct
10am – 4pm pre-booked sessions

Discover the magic of the autumn season as Halloween approaches.  Hear spooktacular tales and uncover the secrets of the Wild Wood in these special family sessions with things to make, colour and create.

Children’s Workshops:

Night Animals
Monday 26 Oct 10.30am – 12.30pm

As the nights get longer learn about the animals that wake up after dark. Create a mobile with swooping owls, dangling bats and a shining moon to hang wherever you go to sleep at night.

£9 per child
4 – 7yrs

Children under 7 yrs must be accompanied by an adult.

Ready, Steady SQUIRREL
Friday 30 Oct 10.30am – 12.30pm

Find out about squirrel gymnastics then make an Autumn tree and some squirrels to swing in it.

Mythical Monsters
Friday 30 Oct 2 – 4pm

Create your own mythical monster string puppet inspired by the curious creatures found in the Museum.

Tiny Toads

If you’re looking for weekly, fun activities for your pre-schooler, join the Museum’s Under 5s Club, Tiny Toads every Thursday term time, 10.15-11.00am.

Wind in the Willows Exhibition
The much-loved story of The Wind in the Willows has been captivating readers for decades. See the story come to life with a permanent exhibition at the River & Rowing Museum. Walk through the story, from Mole spring-cleaning to Toad fighting the weasels and re-capturing Toad Hall. Amazing sets and models tell the story, along with a hand-held audio guide. Sound effects and theatrical lighting add to the magic of the experience.

Outdoor adventures for the whole family: Riverside Trails
Families will love the Museum’s fun and educational outdoor self-led trails. Designed for families with children under 11, they make the most of the Museum’s beautiful riverside setting these school holidays. There are two trails to choose from, which can be used on smart phones or printed off:
