Jeweller David Gives Watches to Help Nomad Christmas Appeal
Gary Boys/DJ one deck’s Facebook music request show has hit the magic £1,000 this week for his Christmas Nomad appeal. The money will be used for the Henley food bank and to buy toys for families in need this Christmas. Gary has also received some special gifts himself to help with the appeal from listener and Henley business owner, David Rodger Sharp.
David has donated over 30 watches ranging from RRP of £50 up to £200 and Gary is giving people the opportunity to purchase these for just half the RRP by donating to the charity. These would make great presents for loved ones with the added heart-warming bonus that you’ve made a difference to a family in Henley. Click on the photos above to see the full range and prices. The number in brackets is the number of this type of watch available.
Gary hopes to raise £3,000 for Nomad leading up to Christmas. His music show airs from 7.30pm till late on Saturday, Sunday, Monday and during the afternoon on Tuesday and Wednesday from 3pm.
David said, “Every night I see Gary doing his thing on DJ one deck and I have so much admiration for people who give up there time to help others. Gary wants to achieve £3000 fund raising for the Nomad food back and I really wanted to help him achieve this. If Gary can use them to help him achieve his fundraising goal I’ll be very happy.
I spent most of my childhood starving. Food banks didn’t exist when I was growing up. My Mum often chose drugs over food. I relied on the generosity of friends and neighbours to feed me. My sister and I used to go through the skips behind Safeway looking for food. Food banks provide a service that so many people find hard to believe still exist today. Nomad do an incredible job. No child should have to rake through skips looking for food like I did. I’m in a very fortunate position now and I still can’t believe I am where I am. If I can make people smile and change a few lives I’ll try.”
Gary commented, “In this time of crisis we have seen some of the best and worst things of mankind and fortunately we have seen more good than bad and David is a shining example of someone who cares and who has kept his feet on the ground and come forward to help in a moment of need and remembers that the past shaped him to be the amazing generous person he is today.”
The number of food parcels Nomad delivered between March and October this year was 955 compared to 197 for the same time last year – a 385% increase. If you are in need of help this year because you have maybe lost your job or your earnings are down if you’re self-employed Nomad are here for everyone and there’s just a simple application form to complete.
