On Saturday (16th October), Henley Hawks took on Volume for their second match in Division One of the Reading Netball League.
The Hawks started strong, with the defensive trio of Lydia Johnston (GD), Chanti Stubbs (GK) and Clare McCarthy (WD) picking up rebounds and loose balls. They fought hard to make crucial interceptions and work the ball down to the attacking end. The first half was closely contended but finished 18-13 to Volume.
The third quarter saw Judy Goforth come on as WD, offering strong support to both defence and attack. The speed and skill of Sammy Coff (WA) and Mary Hough(C), found Katie Bayfield (GA) and Totie Southwell (GS) working hard to receive the ball into comfortable shooting positions. In return Volume stepped up their defence, deflecting the ball back down the court. Leaving the score at the end of the third quarter 30-16 to Volume.
Hawks fought valiantly till the end but it wasn’t to be, resulting in a final score of 39-19 to Volume.
