The local HenleySonNet Primary Care Network (PCN) consisting of The Hart and The Bell Surgeries in Henley, Sonning Common Health Centre, and Nettlebed Surgery, have been engaged in delivery of the Covid vaccination programme since its inception in late 2020. After delivering in the region of 45,000 vaccinations in the intervening time, the PCN members have decided that it is now time to focus on the continued delivery of Primary Care core services. The PCN has given notice that it will cease to be part of the Covid vaccination programme as from December 2021.
Each practice will continue to provide Covid vaccination clinics during November. From December patients that have not received their booster vaccinations, or who have not yet taken up the offer of a first or second vaccination, will be able to book an appointment at one of the vaccination hubs by ringing 119 or booking online Book or manage a booster dose of the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine – NHS (www.nhs.uk).
Restrictions on social distancing throughout the pandemic have seen patients and clinicians adapt to find alternative ways to deliver services, including triage before inviting patients for face to face appointments. This has ensured that we could continue to maintain delivery of phlebotomy services (for some time in the car park, sometimes in the rain); kept open treatment rooms with regular daily appointments; provided baby immunisation clinics; maintained services to the Care Home residents; and provided home visits to our most vulnerable. By keeping to the guidance, including the continued use of face masks, the practices have been able to avoid significant staff shortages due to Covid.
As always, the practices will continue to deliver the 2021-22 flu vaccination programme over the winter period.
The doctors at the practices would like to thank the patients for their stoicism, good humour, and tolerance throughout HenleySonNet’s involvement in the Covid vaccination programme. They would also like to express their sincere gratitude, and extend a huge thank you to all the staff and volunteers, without whose valuable help and support it would not have been possible to deliver the Covid programme and ensure protection to so many people within our communities.
