The Greys WI ‘Knit and Natterers’
Eight Greys WI members meet regularly as ‘Knit and Natterers’; Val, Millicent, Barbara, Joan, Janet, Jennifer, Ann and Joyce. They meet to knit, chat and have fun, but much, much more.
At the moment they are knitting ‘Bonding Bears’ (above) which they send to the Premature Baby Unit in the Royal Berkshire Hospital. Very tiny premature babies are initially nursed in incubators, and every mother and her baby are given a Bonding Bear each, to help bonding until the mums are able to hold their precious babies. A lovely idea. Premature babies also need tiny clothes, and the knitters are kept busy knitting tiny hats and booties to keep them warm and cosy.
For the animal world, Barbara also knits blankets for keeping tiny kittens warm, and these go to our local vets. Adults are not forgotten, the group is knitting special arm bands for older patients, who may be a little confused. These have a calming effect, and the RBH find them very helpful.
A very WI combination of fun and helping others in a quiet, understated way.
