Tigers Earn Their Stripes Against Hurricanes

A Hurricanes side depleted through illness and absence took on a strong Tigers team in Windsor.

Saturday’s league fixture took the Hurricanes to Windsor for their third game against the Tigers in the last two months. The journey through Windsor afforded stunning views of the Castle. Looking up at the Castle makes you wonder whether the Queen was watching, and if so would she be supporting the home side?

A steady stream of planes were climbing out of Heathrow as the teams took to the field. The Tigers were again in their red and black, with the Hurricanes in their yellow away strip.

The Tigers made the first attack, but the Hurricanes pushed back, Oscar persevering on the right, and putting a shot across the face of goal. The Hurricanes were trying hard to create opportunities. Last minute loan signings Josh and Ethan passed the ball well with Oscar. Will L and Jack C combined well but Ethan’s shot was saved. Jack C put in a super ball from the corner but the Tigers’ defence was resolute.

The Tigers were fast and determined in coming forward, and posed a particular threat on the right wing. The Hurricanes spent much of the first half in defensive mode. Jack T tackled hard on the left, and Josh raced back to make another important block. To their credit, when the Tigers pushed forward, the Hurricanes swarmed back in numbers to defend. However the pressure was eventually too much, and the Tigers ended the half with a goal from a powerful strike.

The second half continued in a similar vein. The Hurricanes looked to create chances. Dominic’s long throw-ins caused some problems, and a good move between Dominic and Will L led to a shot from Ethan. Jack T’s free kick found Oscar in the box, whilst Ethan’s shot from Oscar’s free kick was saved.
The Tigers looked dangerous every time they came forward. Dominic made a goalmouth clearance, and Jack T was committed too. But the Tigers had the upper hand and pressed home the advantage.

The next game for the Hurricanes sees them take on local rivals Rotherfield United at Jubilee Park.
