AFC Henley Hurricanes U11s took a break from the summer league to host Caversham Trents in a friendly match at Jubilee Park.
A crisp early summer morning saw the Hurricanes take on Caversham Trents. The Trents were resplendent in their blue-and-white, whilst the Hurricanes also dazzled in bright yellow.
The Hurricanes had the benefit of the slight slope at Jubilee Park in the first half, and made the most of the opportunity to run at the Trents’ defence. They were settling into a good passing rhythm. Nicholas won the ball in midfield, and Will L, Oscar and Ed moved it down to create opportunities.
They didn’t have it all their own way, however. The Trents were able to mount their own counter-attacks, and Dominic, Casper and Jack T needed to be alert in defence. Goalkeeper Harrison calmly collected the ball after a long shot.
At the other end, the Hurricanes’ pressure began to tell. Shiva’s lofted shot from the edge of the box found the top of the net.
The second half saw the Trents have the benefit of the slope, making the Hurricanes work the ball uphill. Jack C and Gabriel were quick on the wings, always looking to cross the ball in for Oscar, Will L or man-of-the-match Ed.
The Trents enjoyed running downhill and putting pressure on the Hurricanes’ defence. The Hurricanes made the most of opportunities to break. Jack T’s cross found Jack C who slotted the ball past the keeper.
Next week sees the Hurricanes return to summer league action on the Platinum Jubilee weekend.
