Henley Royal Regatta Day 2 – Eights Through for Henley, Upper Thames & Leander

On the second day of the Royal Regatta conditions were similar to the first day with a blustery wind which made steering again more difficult in the heats.

Shiplake College didn’t have a good second day with both their eight crews losing.  In the Prince Philip (Junior W8+) they lost to Hinksey Sculling School by 3 ¼ lengths and  in the Princess Elizabeth (Junior M8+) St Paul’s School beat them by 1 length.

Henley Rowing Club are still in the Prince Phillip (Junior W8+) beating Godolphin & Latymer by 3 ½ lengths.  Their M8+ are rowing late today in the Thames Cup against City of Oxford RC at 7.45pm.

Upper Thames didn’t have a good start to the day, they lost to Thames RC in the Britannia (M4+) by 3 lengths and to Thames RC C in the Thames (M8+) easily but they won against Marlow RC B in the Wyfold (M4-) by a good 2 1/2 lengths and in the Wargrave (Club W8+) they beat 98 Riverside BC, USA by 1 1/2 lengths.

Leander Club had a good day winning in the Thames (M8+) against Vesta R.C. VERDICT by 3 ¼ lengths,  in the Remenham (W8+) they beat Thames R.C. & Un. of Cal., Berkeley, USA VERDICT by 2 ½ lengths and in the Visitors’ (M4-) – Thames R.C. & Leander Club beat Nottingham University by 1 ¾ lengths.  The W8+ have a late race at 7.15pm against The Tideway Scullers’ School ‘B’.
