Farewell Symphony Orchestra Concert for Musical Director

This final concert of Henley Symphony Orchestra’s 22/23 season concert at Christ Church on Saturday 16 July, Henley, will mark the orchestra’s farewell to Ian Brown, their much-loved Music Director of the last 27 years, who has decided to call it a day. Despite the sadness of the occasion, it will be a lively and uplifting celebration of Ian’s distinguished career with a sparkling selection of classical dance music, from the folksy gypsy rhythms of Romania to the gaiety of 19th century Paris.  Compèred by Anjali Singh, the concert will start at 4pm and will last about an hour and is suitable for all ages, including younger children.

From its first concert in a borrowed marquee in Shiplake, and now in its 52nd season, HSO has gone from strength to strength, attracting some 50 players from across the Thames Valley. Under the guidance of Ian Brown, the orchestra has promoted an annual season of four concerts, featuring internationally acclaimed artists   ̶   the aim being to provide high-quality music-making at affordable prices and to give local musicians an opportunity to perform the great classical orchestral repertoire to a high standard.
