Cafe Scientifique Henley Presents The Blue Frontier

Speaker – Steve Holloway, Marine Biologist

What is humanity’s next frontier? Space might be called the final frontier, but earth still contains vast unexplored regions.

In fact, more than 70% of our planet begs to be better understood: The Blue Frontier. We have better maps of the Moon and Mars than we do of our ocean basins. Steve will take us into the near future to consider how scientific innovations might enable communities to live and work on the open oceans. His recent project helps artisanal fishing communities cultivate ocean species in ways that are both sustainable and restore balance to the environment.

Steve’s first novel, Pelagia – Between the Stars and the Abyss, was published last year by Lion Fiction. It is a near future thriller set against the human drama of pioneering and settling this Blue Frontier.

Time: You can arrive from 7pm for a 7:30 start. Usual format is 45 min talk followed by 45 Q&A.
