Charity Golf Day Goes Off with a Swing in Support of The Chiltern Centre

A terrific day was had by all when the Chiltern Centre held its 14th Annual Charity Golf day at Henley Golf Club on Wednesday (12th October), raising over £2,000.

Henley Golf Club has been a long-time supporter of the Chiltern Centre, with 40 players taking to the course for this year’s event.  Playing in groups of four, there was a prize for the top score for the men’s and ladies’ teams. In addition, there was a prize for the nearest pin on the 7th hole and the longest drive on the 18th, both for men and ladies.

This event has raised over £55,000 for the Chiltern Centre since it started. Ian Thomas (Chief Golf Scorer), stated, “This is a charity that has been supported for many years by the Henley Golf Club and one that is always supported by many members of the Club, and some players have taken part in every event since it started.”

Alan Wilson (Owner of Henley Distillery), who was taking part in the event, stated, “It was important for the Distillery, that was set up 16 months ago, to be involved in local charities and sports clubs and to become a part of the local community.”  He added, “The Chiltern Centre is a wonderful local charity, and the work they do is tremendously admirable and very necessary.”

The Chiltern Centre is a charity that provides specialist support to young people with disabilities and supports their families and parents. The Centre focuses on empowering young people to live life to the full and the provision of this specialist support relies on the local community to raise funds.

Harriet Barcella, from the Chiltern Centre, explained, “Days like today, obviously raise money for the Chiltern Centre and we have to raise £200,000 each year or we literally cannot open our doors. However, the event also brings the community together and means we get people talking about the Chiltern Centre and learning a bit more about what the work that we do.”
