Glow Carving Out to be a Cool Music Fixture on Henley Calendar
The second Henley Winter music festival, Glow at Leander Club organised by Twenty One Twelve Marketing and Eight Ray Music built on the success of the first year with last Saturday night selling out.
Over two weekends, the heated outdoor marquee saw a Bavarian Beer Party, a Jazz Evening and three nights of Apres-ski high-octane live music nights with Eight Ray Music bands; Duke, Brother Strut and JG Collective performing. DJ, Jamie Taylor took over the music each night after the live music.
At the Bavarian Beer Party, The Bettesteiner Footstompers and J.B. MAC kept the party going with live music well into the evening. The weather didn’t dampen spirits and some of the party-goers dressed up in traditional Bavarian-style dirndl dresses and lederhosen.
With temperatures falling last weekend, many guests wore ski-wear to the Apres-ski nights but with the heat rising inside the marquee with everyone dancing, people started to take off layers because they were too hot. Outside the marquee, the Leander garden was beautifully lit up and guests could have fun with some Skid games which included a ski buzz wire game, ski ergo machine and doing the splits drinking game.
We had a great night out on Saturday evening dancing and singing along to JG Collective. The band played a real mixture of well-known songs from Lionel Richie’s All Night Long, Freed from Desire by Gala, Uptown Funk by Mark Ronson to Robbie Williams’ Angels and Mr Blue Sky by ELO. Lead singer and owner of Eight Ray Music JJ who grew up in Henley gave a shout out to all the schools, with cheers for each one and told the audience he had been playing with a few of his bandmates since he went to school at Gillotts.
Nicola Taylor who enjoyed Saturday with friends said, “Lovely to see people getting dressed up in their salopettes and their ski goggles and having a good time with some great live music.”
JJ said afterwards, “A huge thank you to everyone who attended GLOW Henley, from an evening of Jazz through to our Apres Ski entertainment, we hope you all had a blast. Your support means the world to us and shows what a strong community Henley is. We were also proud to support charities through this year’s event, including The Riverside Counselling Service, Ben vs Duchenne and The Chiltern Centre. Finally a huge thank you to our suppliers and partners, including Graham Bell and Ben Hargreaves, Leander Club, Hurlingham Stretch Tents and Henley Olives & Lemons. We hope to see you all again next year!”
