Council Announce First Plans for Coronation Weekend

Plans by Henley Town Council are underway for the King’s Coronation weekend (Saturday 6 May-Monday 8 May).

On Saturday 6 May, a large TV screen will be erected in front of the Town Hall for people to watch the coronation live plus there will be additional entertainment including union jack stilt walkers, other entertainers and live music.  There will be a road closure in place for Market Place (stretching along from Joules-Facy and round the front of the Town Hall from Hofs to the car park) to make the area safe for everyone.

A Kings Coronation flotilla of beautifully decorated boats will take place on the river on Saturday or Sunday afternoon – the day will be shortly confirmed.

On Sunday 7 May residents are encouraged to host local street parties.  Residents can apply for road closures via SODC website at https://www.southoxon.gov.uk/south-oxfordshire-district-council/licensing/temporary-road-closures/  for their street party.  The deadline for this is the 31 March 2023.  Residents are also invited to have a picnic on Mill Meadows and enjoy the music on the bandstand.

Monday 8 May – Communities are encouraged to take part in volunteering projects. The Henley Mayor recently launched a volunteering initiative to help volunteers find suitable opportunities. Henley in Bloom will organise a litter pick that people can get involved in.
