Elderly Man’s Body Found in River

Police Officers were called to the river yesterday at around 11.20am, to reports of a body in the water.

Emergency services from the Berkshire Fire & Rescue Service and South Central Ambulance Service responded immediately to the report and an extensive search commenced.

Tragically, following this search, the body of a man, aged 91, was located in the water by the fire service and recovered a short time later.

The man’s death is being treated as unexplained, but not suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

Although formal identification has yet to take place, the man’s next of kin have been informed and they are being offered support by officers.

Detective Constable Rachel Pithers, based at Loddon Valley police station, said: “Our thoughts remain with the man’s family at this incredibly difficult time.

“I would like to thank the emergency services who assisted our officers in locating the man.”
