Choral Society Invites New Singers to Celebrate 50th Anniversary

2023 is the 50th anniversary of Henley Choral Society and they have a number of opportunities for people who would like to develop their love of singing.

Chair Dr Tim Wilson explains, “Part of the aim behind our 50-year celebration is to encourage more people to sing and to support young singers. In line with our charitable objectives,  membership is free for all singers aged 18-30. We rehearse on Monday evenings at d:two, Marketplace, Henley and there are no auditions! Anyone wanting to join should call Membership Secretary Wendy Hawkins on 01491 576929 and the new term starts Monday 17 April.”

The repertoire for the next term is by composer and conductor Bob Chilcott, described by The Observer as “a contemporary hero of British choral music. ” Dr Wilson adds “Bob Chilcott is well known for his wonderfully melodic and accessible work. You will find the bossa nova and all sorts of jazz and folk music influences in his compositions. They are a delight to sing.”

The society is also putting on a workshop run by Bob Chilcott himself on 20 May from 10.30 to 4.30pm at St Mary’s Church. Dr Wilson comments “With the support of our members, Gold Friends and Gold Sponsors we have made this very special workshop by Bob Chilcott FREE for all singers under 30 and for those in receipt of income and disability benefit. We would encourage anyone who enjoys singing to come along.”  Tickets and information www.henleychoralsociety.org.uk.
