Wargrave Theatre Are Overall Winners at Henley Drama Festival

The Henley Drama Festival took place last week over four nights at the Kenton Theatre with ten amateur dramatic societies taking part.

There was a great variety of drama but those that shone through repeatedly were Headington Girls’ School, Oxford performance of Numbers by Kieron Barry who won the All Women’s, Best Presentation and Youth Awards and Wargrave Theatre’s Last Tango in Little Grimley took the overall winners’ trophy.

The Dayton Cup for best original play went to Didcote Phoenix  for their performance of No Prime Minister.

The Best Actor and Actress went to Wargrave Theatres’ Mike Watt and Grace Tye.

Len Pannet from Sinodun Players who performed the “The Timid Twosome” won the Best Supporting Adult.

Rose Hardcastle from Headington School won the Best Performance Youth and Koa Copland from Stageworks Henley won the award for Best Supporting Youth.  Emma Jane Taylor from Stageworks said, “Huge congratulations to our amazing Saturday Class on their stunning performance at the Henley Drama Festival on Friday Evening.  They absolutely rocked ‘Flags & Bands’ by Allan Williams, and their Yorkshire accents were spot on. We’re thrilled that Koa also won the award for ‘Best Supporting Actress’ – what an incredible achievement!”

Adjudicator Bob Tomson wanted to award The Jean Sutherland Adjudicators Choice to Festival Director Ann Dayton but knew she would refuse so awarded it to HAODS performance of Blackadder.  The Diamond Shield Magic Moment went to Sara Beasley from Wargrave Theatre.

Caroline Bowder from the HDF said, “It was a very successful and enjoyable festival, the Mayor of Henley presented the prizes. There was Gala party onstage afterwards supported by Wetherspoons, Chocolate Cafe, Hot Gossip, Menza and Drifters.  Adjudicator Bob Tomson gave insightful judgements and valuable guidance to the young actors.”
