Top Tee Charity Event Thanks to Catriona Matthew OBE

Golf’s Solheim Cup Captain and winner, Catriona Matthew OBE was the special guest at Badgemore Park Golf Club last Thursday for a packed day in support of local charity, Nomad and Action for ME.

The sold out event saw 66 golfers tee-off the day with an 18-hole team golf competition followed by a golf clinic by Catriona who demonstrated different shots with various clubs.. At the clinic Catriona talked about the basics right which included the grip, good posture and alignment of the body.  She explained, “Getting your whole body moving through the swing means you’ll keep the shot straighter.”  There were many questions which included – What speed should be hitting the ball at? Which club to use for a certain distance?  What she would do if there was a tree in the way? How to get out of the rough?

The golfers then enjoyed a 2-course dinner followed by an audience with Catriona hosted by Sky Sports broadcaster Henni Koyack.

Ladies Captain Maggie Stanley organised the day.  She said, “The day came about through a friend who knew Catriona’s Manager who said when I was Vice Captain he would be happy to help make the introduction.  I was really pleased with how the day went.  It was so positive and I’ve received lots of emails and texts from people to say how much they enjoyed it.  There was some really interesting questions asked of Catriona.  We’re also very pleased that we raised a lot of money for my charity Nomad and the Men’s Captain Les whose charity affects his niece and is close to his heart.”

Neil Duguid and Eithne Rosenmeier from Henley Information Systems who have their offices at Badgemore enjoyed the day.  Neil said, “I met Catriona and her brother decades ago in Scotland so I was particularly curious to see how she was.”  Eithne added, “It’s the first time Badgemore have done one of these big events which I think is great and the course looks absolutely fab. They’ve put a lot of time at Badgemore in putting this event on.”

Afterwards Catriona said, “I really enjoyed my first visit to Badgemore Park.   The practice facilities were great and perfect for giving a clinic.  The course looked stunning and I’d love to come back and play it one day.  We then had a fun dinner with the members and guests, where both the food and company were excellent!”
