Mayor Joins Meteor Club for Good Old Sing Song to Mark Learning Disability Day

Well-known and loved songs including Daisy Daisy, Doing the Lambeth Walk and Oh What a Beautiful Morning sung by The Meteor Club entertained shoppers in Market Place on Saturday morning to mark Mencap Learning Disability Awareness Day.

As well as singing, they had a stall selling cakes and were asking people for donations to Mencap Society South Oxfordshire.

Henley Mayor, Councillor Sarah Miller joined in the singing.  She said, “I’ve always supported Mencap.  In my last term as Mayor a lot of events were cancelled but I went to the great Mencap Christmas party at Harpsden Hall.  That was the first time I met everyone.  I’ve got a busy day today but I certainly made time to come here and see everyone and to meet the President, Melba Pitt who is 99.  It’s amazing what they do.”

Libby Meachin who organises The Meteor Club said “We meet most Thursday evenings.  We do something social.  It is purely to have fun.  We all like singing and dancing a lot.  We play bingo and have barbecues and we’re going on boat trip.  We’re also having Feathers & Furs Falconry visit us in July.  We do lots of different things.  It’s lovely to be all together today and to have the Mayor with us and the support of the local community.”
