Henley Mermaid Laura Completes Solo Channel Swim

Henley Mermaid Laura Reineke has swam the English Channel solo in an amazing time of 15 hours and 23 minutes.

She set off from Samphire Hoe in Dover at 2.38am this morning and arrived at Wissant Beach in France at 18.26 this evening.  The conditions for most of the swim were good with the water temperature around 19 degrees centigrade.

She was supported by fellow Henley Mermaid Joan Fennelly on the pilot boat and friend and open water swimmer Lee Saudan who swam with Laura to the finish from about 3.00pm.

Throughout the swim Joan was writing messages of support from the WhatsApp group on a whiteboard to show Laura including one from her Mum and Dad which read, “Speechless at your courage. So proud. Mum and Dad”

She first completed the Channel Swim with the four other Henley Mermaids in relay in June 2020 in a time of 17 hours 43 minutes.

Laura is raising money for this swim for the Henley Community Hub.  You can https://www.gofundme.com/f/henley-community-hub-henley-mermaids
